About This Course
In Part 1, you will explore what implicit bias is and how it often results in racial discrimination. You will explore how our experiences growing up can inform our understanding of racial discrimination. And you will reflect on how our members are experiencing racial discrimination at work.
In Part 2, you will learn about racial trauma, vicarious trauma and intergenerational trauma. Together, we will build on our previous course work in preparing a case study on workplace discrimination. We will examine case summaries, gathering evidence, exploring recourse options, and determining corrective and proactive measures.
The case study will deal with racial discrimination in one of the following employment systems: staffing, workplace culture, denial of a collective agreement right, discipline and termination, and worker to worker racism/systemic racism.
Prerequisites
You should have taken the two-day Grievance Handling course or have equivalent grievance handling experience or have experience in anti-racism advocacy in the workplace or community.
